It has been an astounding two years for us at Mom’s! As we approach the end of 2020, we look back with great pride as our dream to build what started as a family hobby into a “home” business has grown into the vibrant little enterprise we have today.
As of this week, Mom’s is now sold at two dozen great stores and markets in and around Ottawa, in Chelsea Que., in Magnetawan in Ontario’s “Near North”, and at a growing cluster of locations in the London area (who’d of thunk it?). We expect to grow again in the New Year, as we continue making new connections through Eastern Ontario’s wonderful and supportive network of craft, artisan and home business owners and operators.
We owe so much to the people who’ve taken a chance on our product, and who’ve offered us advice and support along the way. We also owe a huge Holiday “thank you” to the thousands of you out there who’ve tried the four blends of Mom’s, given us your feedback, told friends and family, and shared our various social media posts.
We’ve grown so much that we’ve literally been run off our feet trying to keep up. That growth has meant another change this fall … and it’s a huge step for many reasons. We’re now preparing Mom’s at a kitchen in Ottawa, North House Foods.
The ongoing pandemic caused us a series of headaches this year, as it has for all of you. Our family has also, increasingly, had to focus on their own needs (we’ve become grandparents, our other son and his fiance are working toward building a hobby farm, and our daughter is focused on her career up north). That and the pandemic restrictions have impacted their ability to assist Mom, and Dad, with preparing the salsa.
It was a very difficult decision to make this change, but when we met Paul and the folks at North House Foods they quickly put us at ease. Paul is a chef, and himself a local small business owner.
While we were talking about the change, he said something that really struck a chord with us. We were concerned about giving up even a wee bit of control of the preparation process, to which Paul replied: “We want your business to do well, because that helps our business do well”. Thank you, Paul, and we look forward to a long and happy relationship.
Like Mom’s, the folks at North House source high-quality, fresh veggies and hand-chop the ingredients. And we’re still involved monitoring and testing every batch of Mom’s before we share it with our retailers and customers. We will always demand the best, and we stand 100 per cent behind our product … that will never change.
So, with that said, we at Mom’s wish you a safe, happy and joyous Holiday Season, no matter how you and your family celebrate. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year … and we hope to actually SEE you all again very soon.
